Following several warnings, the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission has revoked the registration of more than 700 charities. 

A referendum disclosure scheme has been introduced through changes to the Commonwealth Referendum (Machinery Provisions) Act 1984.

In the wake of the earthquake disaster in Türkiye and Syria, the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission advises donors to give generously to legitimate charities but to beware of scam appeals.
