The Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters is calling for additional submissions in relation to electoral funding and political donations, after completing a review of proposed foreign donations laws earlier this year.
In January 2018, the committee conducted an inquiry into the proposed Electoral Legislation Amendment (Electoral Funding and Disclosure Reform) Bill 2017, designed to prevent foreign influence on Australian elections.
The ACNC's submission to the inquiry in January 2018 is available to download from the ACNC website.
Following the inquiry, the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters made 15 recommendations of amendments to clarify the legislation - including re-defining the term 'political purpose' due to the potential for confusion with the current definition in the Charities Act 2013.
The Committee is now seeking additional submissions on the proposed amendments to the Electoral Legislation Amendment (Electoral Funding and Disclosure Reform) Bill 2017, to consider if the amendments address the recommendations of the previous inquiry.
Submissions close Thursday 27 September.
More information about the submission process is available on the Parliament of Australia website, along with a download of the proposed amendments.
