Commenting on concerns

By law the ACNC cannot speak publicly about the circumstances of any charity, apart from referring to information already published on the Charity Register. This includes whether or not a concern about a charity has been raised with the ACNC, or whether the ACNC is investigating a concern or allegations made about a charity. This also means that once a concern is raised, the ACNC cannot keep the person who raised the concern informed about any investigation we may be undertaking. This approach is a requirement of the secrecy provisions in the ACNC Act which bind the ACNC Commissioner and their staff.

After Türkiye and Syria disaster charity regulator says give generously but beware of scams

In the wake of the earthquake disaster in Türkiye and Syria, the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission advises donors to give generously to legitimate charities but to beware of scam appeals.

Australian Government announces new ACNC Commissioner

Sue Woodward AM has been appointed as Commissioner of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) for a five-year period commencing on 12 December, 2022. Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities and Treasury the Hon Dr Andrew Leigh MP announced the appointment.

Hundreds of charities lose registration for repeatedly failing to report

Disappointingly, the ACNC has had to revoke the registration of over 550 charities in the past week because they failed over successive years to complete their annual reporting to ACNC.
