The latest Australian Charities Report illustrates Australian charities’ major contribution to the economy and to thousands of communities.  

The head of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission the Hon Dr Gary Johns has announced he will step down from the role at the end of July. 

The Hon Dr Andrew Leigh MP has been sworn in as Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities and Treasury, with responsibility for the charity sector and the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission. 

Meeting charities is a priority and a highlight for ACNC Commissioner Dr Gary Johns.

Charities that failed to submit two or more Annual Information Statements have lost registration, and many are likely to have stopped operating.

In National Volunteer Week, on the ACNC Charity Chat podcast, Australians are urged to reflect on how they can get involved in volunteering.

Close to 750 charities across every state and Territory are at risk of losing registration because they have failed to submit two or more Annual Information Statements to the ACNC.

With the 2022 federal election to be held on Saturday 21 May, ACNC Commissioner the Hon Dr Gary Johns is urging charities to be aware of their obligations regarding political advocacy and campaigning.

“This is going to be a game changer for people in the not-for-profit area,” said GIVIT CEO Sarah Tennant at the launch of the ACNC’s enhanced Charity Register on 1 March, speaking about the value of the enhancements for charities and the sector. 

Charities can now update details about their programs on the ACNC website any time, to showcase their work to donors and other potential supporters.
