The ACNC is warning that 70 charities risk losing registration as they have failed to submit two or more Annual Information Statements.
The Commission has today issued a public notice advising charities they have until 7 October 2024 to submit overdue Annual Information Statements, or their registration may be revoked.
ACNC Assistant Commissioner General Counsel Natasha Sekulic stressed the importance of keeping contact information and reporting up to date for charities to maintain their registration.
“These charities may have changed their address and contact details or have closed and have not notified us,” Ms Sekulic said.
“Despite repeated attempts, we have not been able to contact these charities to let them know that they have overdue Annual Information Statements.”
All charities are required to submit their Annual Information Statements annually. Ms Sekulic said that while the ACNC recognises many organisations may have ceased operations or merged, it is essential that they inform us of such changes.
"Good governance and accountability are vital for maintaining public trust and confidence in the sector. Ensuring the accuracy of data on the Charity Register is one way we support this and that is why it is crucial charities are proactive in keeping us informed,” she said.
“We strongly encourage all charities to keep their reporting current to avoid losing their registration, charity tax concessions and the need to re-register if they are still active.”
