The ACNC has welcomed the appointment of Sara Harrup as the new Deputy Chair and Nick Maisey as a new member of the ACNC Advisory Board. These appointments were announced by Assistant Minister for Charities, The Hon Dr Andrew Leigh MP.
Ms Harrup has been serving on the Advisory Board since August 2023 and stepped into her new role on 2 August. She brings extensive experience from her work in leading, advising and supporting boards across the charity and not-for-profit sector. Mr Maisey is the founder of a community-building non-profit called Befriend, based in Western Australia. He joins the board with a strong background in social entrepreneurship and youth advocacy.
The ACNC has also welcomed Martyn Campbell as the new ex officio member of the board. Ex officio members can be appointed because they hold another specified office and remain on the board as long as they hold the specified office. Mr Campbell has replaced Dini Soulio as South Australia’s Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, Corporate Affairs, Liquor and Gambling, and Prices. He has over 30 years of experience in regulatory compliance and investigations across various sectors.
ACNC Commissioner Sue Woodward AM welcomed the appointments: “I am delighted to welcome Sara Harrup, Nick Maisey and Martyn Campbell to their new roles on the ACNC Advisory Board. Their diverse experiences and deep commitment to the sector will be invaluable as we continue to support and regulate Australia’s charities.”
Ms Woodward also expressed her gratitude to the outgoing Deputy Chair, Heather Watson, for her significant contributions over the past seven years. “Heather has been a pillar of the Advisory Board, particularly in her role as the independent Chair of the ACNC’s Performance Audit and Risk Committee. Her dedication and expertise have greatly benefited the ACNC and the broader charity sector,” Ms Woodward said. Additionally, she extended her thanks to former ex officio member Dino Soulio for his service, acknowledging his valuable input and commitment to the board’s initiatives.
“The ACNC Advisory Board plays a crucial role in providing sector-specific advice to the Commissioner, ensuring that the ACNC remains responsive to the needs of charities and the community. The new appointments will enhance the board’s ability to support a robust and thriving charity sector.”
