As Giving Tuesday is marked around the world today, ACNC Commissioner Sue Woodward AM says it is a wonderful opportunity to consider all the different ways there are to give.

Over the past ten years, Giving Tuesday has inspired hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity.

“We encourage everyone to support charities in whatever way they can. Every little bit counts, and everyone has something to contribute,” Ms Woodward said.

“For some, the best contribution might be to volunteer their precious time and skills. That is a significant act of generosity, with around half of Australia’s charities run solely by volunteers. Some may wish to make a small financial donation to a charity that works for a cause close to their heart. Others may be able to donate more.

“We support a culture of giving through our work, especially in maintaining the Charity Register. Today, Giving Tuesday, is a great prompt to search the Register to find a cause close to your heart, a great day to think of ways that you can contribute and reflect on anything you already do.

“We understand that growing funding is extremely important for the sector. The Productivity Commission is conducting an inquiry into ways to grow philanthropic giving, and our submission recognised that increasing philanthropy is core to a sustainable charitable sector.”
