On 17 September 2021, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal handed down a decision in the matter of Global Citizen Limited and the Commissioner of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.

The Tribunal found that Global Citizen Limited was entitled to registration as a public benevolent institution. The Commissioner has determined not to appeal.

ACNC Assistant Commissioner General Counsel, Anna Longley advised that the ACNC would issue a statement on any implications arising out of the decision in due course.

"We are carefully considering the Tribunal’s decision and will publish a statement clarifying any implications relevant for charities," Ms Longley said.
